  • Outdoor trade needs a valid licence, whether the space is public, municipal, privately owned or leased; this includes λαϊκή markets. Under Law 4849/2021 as amended in 2026, the producer-seller licence is granted, for their own produce, to professional farmers registered in the Farmers Register and, at λαϊκή markets only, to farmer cooperatives and producer groups.
  • The municipality grants the licence; in Attica and Thessaloniki, the markets’ operating bodies do.
  • When the goods for sale include eggs, the national procedure (updated 22 October 2026) asks for the poultry unit’s licence or legal exemption under Law 4056/2012, a control certificate under EU Regulations 853/2004 and 589/2008, and the holding code.
  • As published, each producer may choose whether to use the grading exemption.
