Current situation

What the agency's own pages and tables showed when we checked, with the line each comes from.

  • No ISDA bird-flu order, control area, or show or sale restriction was found on ISDA's pages or news list (read October 14, 2026). ISDA's case table lists 6/23/2026 Canyon (backyard poultry) as its latest case; APHIS shows that flock's control area released July 20, 2026. ISDA's avian influenza pages were last updated August 10, 2026, before the six later APHIS detections below.

    • “6/23/2026 Canyon Backyard Producer (poultry) 3000”

    • Jun 23, 2026Canyon CountyBackyard (Poultry)3,000 birdscontrol area released Jul 20, 2026

      USDA APHIS · publicdashboards.dl.usda.gov · Canyon 21 row

    • “last updated: August 10, 2026 at 04:21 pm”

      ISDA · agri.idaho.gov · page footer

  • APHIS lists six later Idaho detections, all 'WOAH Non-Poultry' with Control Area Released 'NA': Ada 12 and Canyon 22 (August 20, 2026), Ada 13 (August 28, 2026), Canyon 23 and Gem 03 (September 3, 2026), and Ada 14 (October 6, 2026, the latest). ISDA's own table does not list them.

  • The only ISDA exhibition document found is its April 2022 Exhibition Guidance: recommendations for organizers and exhibitors, not an order.

    • “This document can aid organizers in deciding whether or not an event should be cancelled, in addition to providing guidance to reduce risk of spread during an exhibition.”

Bringing birds or hatching eggs into Idaho

NPIP flocks: a valid VS 9-3. Others: a CVI (with the destination's full physical address) recording a negative pullorum-typhoid test of every bird within 30 days. All poultry need individual official ID before moving interstate. No poultry from a premises or region the origin state designates as having an active avian influenza outbreak. Animals exposed to disease or from a quarantined area need an ISDA entry permit first. The avian-imports page lists no entry permit for ordinary poultry (unconfirmed; see the notes at the end of this page). Separately, ISDA's June 9, 2026 New World screwworm Administrative Order (own row) requires a 5-day CVI for poultry and birds from screwworm states, plus official ID for poultry and an entry permit from infested zones.

What the entry rules say
  • “Importation of poultry originating from a premises or region designated by the animal health official in the state of origin as having an active avian influenza outbreak shall be prohibited.”

Idaho State Department of Agriculture (published by the Office of the Administrative Rules Coordinator) · adminrules.idaho.gov · Section 701.03

  • “Poultry imported from NPIP certified flocks may be moved with VS Form 9-3 in lieu of a certificate of veterinary inspection.”

Idaho State Department of Agriculture (published by the Office of the Administrative Rules Coordinator) · adminrules.idaho.gov · Section 103

Common questions

Is there a bird flu order in Idaho right now?
We found no bird-flu order covering Idaho or any of its areas today. Its standing rules for bringing birds in and showing them still apply.
Can I take my chickens to a poultry show or swap in Idaho?
We found no current order on poultry shows or sales in Idaho on October 15, 2026. That is what the official pages showed, not an all-clear; call the Idaho State Department of Agriculture at 208-332-8540 before an event.
What do I need to bring chickens or hatching eggs into Idaho?
Who do I call about sick or dead birds in Idaho?
Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), Division of Animal Industries at 208-332-8540. Report sick or dying birds there or to USDA at 1-866-536-7593. This page is not veterinary advice; follow your state veterinarian.
How current is this page?
We read Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), Division of Animal Industries's notices on October 14, 2026. Whether each order is in force is worked out from its dates every time the page is rebuilt, at least once an hour, so an order never shows as in force after it ends.

What we couldn't confirm
  • ISDA's case table (page updated August 10, 2026) lags APHIS: it omits six August-October 2026 non-poultry detections, and dates Canyon's June non-poultry case 6/11/2026 with 16 birds where APHIS has June 10, 2026 with 20. ISDA's table is not a currency source on its own.
  • IDAPA 02.04.21 is read from the current-rules PDF; every section is dated 3-31-22, and the October 2026 active-rulemaking index lists no rulemaking on 02.04.21. A newer amendment would have to appear there.
  • Whether ordinary poultry need an Idaho entry permit: the avian-imports page lists none for poultry (it lists one for feedlot ratites and wildlife); Section 100.03 says 'if required'. Unconfirmed; ISDA 208-332-8540.
  • Section 701.03 and Section 107 both cover birds from affected areas (one prohibits, one allows entry by permit); the rule does not reconcile them, and no ISDA guidance on it was found.
  • The ISDA Import Permit System (isda.idaho.gov/AnimalImport) and the Avian Influenza Screen are forms; not opened.
  • APHIS detections: USDA's own Tableau export (publicdashboards.dl.usda.gov), filtered to Idaho by the fetcher.
  • New World screwworm: the Administrative Order PDF (dated June 9, 2026; linked from ISDA's NWS page) was read and is the row's source. It prints only 'ORDERED this 9th day of June, 2026' (no separate effective date) and runs until rescinded in writing. ISDA's avian-imports page names Texas only; ISDA's release of June 10 announced it.
